ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Donetsk National Medical University has the IV (the highest) level of accreditation in Ukraine, and it has greatly contributed to the development of Ukraine’s higher educational system, medical science and health services. As of now, over 1120 teachers work at 82 departments of Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU).

Since March 2004, Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) has been appointed as the primary regional center for implementing the Bologna process in Ukraine. Donetsk National Medical University students have the opportunity to attend various exchange programs with other European medical universities and, upon obtaining specialist’s degree, they will have very good job prospects in Europe and America.

Donetsk National Medical University was the first medical university in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe who started the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in English language for foreign students.

Foreign students study in groups of 10-12 students. Second-year students attend their clinical studies where they gain experience by nursing patients. Clinical subjects are taught starting from the third year of study. Students are free to pick disciplines compulsory for a specific course, as well as any of those which may become useful.

In Donetsk National Medical University there are 11 different institutes working in different fields for research and international cooperation in medicine.

In Donetsk National Medical University there are 23 theoretical departments where students get their training. All the departments and classes are well-equipped with new computer labs, teaching staff is proficient in English, and all materials related to subjects are available to students.

In Donetsk National Medical University there are 19 clinical departments working under Donetsk National Medical University, wherein students get their clinical and practical training. Almost all clinical departments of Donetsk National Medical University are located in different hospitals of Donetsk, and most hospitals are located at the campus of the Donetsk National Medical University. Students have full rights to use clinical labs of all the hospitals. Laboratories utilize all modern facilities and equipment.

DONETSK NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY BIOMEDICAL DEPARTMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

In Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) the academic year is divided into two semesters:

  • The first semester starts in either in September or October and lasts until the last week of December.
  • The second semester starts either in January or February and lasts until mid-July.

Within the week there are 5 working days, Saturday and Sunday are days off. The studies are scheduled from 8.00 to 16.00. The student’s working week comprises 54 hours; within this time period there are 36 lecturing hours and 18 hours for independent work.
The teaching course consists of semesters, summative assessment and vacations. The teaching year is 12 months and comprises teaching days, days of final control, examination sessions, days off, weekends and public holidays. Visiting all kinds of studies (except for consultations) is obligatory for the students. Summer vacation covers the month of July and august.

During holidays students may have easy access to CIS & all countries in Europe by bus, train and flights. Special program and trips are also available to enable students to experience firsthand the transition process in Russia or Ukrainian, CIS counties and elsewhere in Europe.

Degree awarded: Bachelor of Dentistry (BDS)

PHARMACY:

English and Russian Medium of Instruction
The duration of the pharmacy course is 5 years.

NURSING:

English and Russian Medium of Instruction
The duration of the course is 2 years for diploma and 4 years for a bachelor’s degree.
Degree awarded: Bachelor of Nursing

POST GRADUATE EDUCATION:

Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) offers post graduate studies in all medical fields.
The duration of the study is 2-3 years.

PRE-MEDICAL COURSE:

This is a Russian intensive program for students wishing to continue their studies at Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) or any other University in Ukraine.
The duration of the preparatory course is 1 year.
Upon successful completion a diploma is awarded.

FOUNDATION COURSE:

This course is specially designed for the foreign students who do not meet the requirements necessary for the undergraduate programs; it also helps students bridge the gap between school and university.
The duration of the foundation course is 1 year.

ACCOMMODATION

While getting education, all the students are provided with comfortable rooms for living in hostels for students. All the rooms are provided with the Internet access, TV set and telephone. There are bathrooms, lavatories and kitchens for students in the hostels. Usually, students use accommodation facilities on the sharing basis. All students’ hostels are safe and secure as they are under the protection of the police during 24 hours.

Educational process does not only consist of exams and tests. Students’ life is a unique world, full of hopes and joy, exciting events and fascinating new acquaintances. The university is a so-called city within the city, which has everything one might need. Various sport competitions and charity events are being held at the University, and a number of humanitarian missions from the University have been sent abroad. The students can visit the Central Medical Library, the Museum of Medical History, a botanical garden, an animal facility, 3 students’ hostels, a volunteers’ center, a publishing house etc.

ABOUT THE CITY

Kropyvnytskyi or Kropyvnytsky (former Kirovohrad and Elizavetograd) is a city and administrative center of the Kirovograd region of Ukraine.

The city is standing along the upper Ingul River, where the latter is crossed by the Kremenchug-Odessa railway. It is an important railway and highway junction of Ukraine.
Population – 293,000 (2013).

The town was founded as St. Elizabeth’s fortress to defend the southern borders of the Russian Empire from Turks and Crimean Tatars in 1754. In 1775, it became a town of Elizavetgrad and developed as an agricultural center.

In 1918, an armed uprising guided by Bolsheviks took place in Elizavetgrad and the Soviet power was established in the town. It was renamed Zinovyevsk in 1924, Kirovo – in 1936, and Kirovograd – in 1939.

Today, the city retains its function as an agricultural city. In addition to food-processing industries, it has one of the most important agricultural-machinery works in Ukraine.

In 2016, it was renamed in honor of Marko Kropyvnytskyi (1840-1910), a Ukrainian writer, playwright and theater actor who lived in the city.
The climate is of moderate continental type with mild winters and warm (sometimes hot) summers. The average temperature in January is minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, in June – plus 20.2 degrees C.

The city was visited by many outstanding personalities, such as A.S. Pushkin (1824), A. Mitskevich (1825), F. List (1887), A. Fet (in the 50s of the 19th century).
